March 2026: Benelux Meeting on Systems and Control (Lommel, Belgium)

A fantastic atmosphere at the Benelux Meeting 2026, showcasing top-tier research in systems and control. The plenary talks have been truly outstanding—a vivid reminder of how vibrant and dynamic the Benelux control community is. A few highlights from the conference:

• Amir Mehrnoosh presented his work “Two-point Random Gradient-free Methods for Model-free Feedback Optimization;” Vijayand Digge shared his work on online reinforcement learning; and Arthur Mélot presented his recent results on fleet rebalancing optimization.

• We presented the very first SOCN Best PhD Thesis Award—congratulations to Brecht Evens!

• This edition of the Benelux Meeting set a new attendance record, with over 300 participants! It has been both fun (and a lot of work!) to be part of the organizing committee. Many thanks to Raphaël Jungers and Julien Hendrickx for co-organizing it with me!

December 2025: IEEE Conference on Decision and Control (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil)

Wonderful moments from CDC 2026 in Rio de Janeiro—what an incredible setting for a conference! We presented our work “The Discrete-Time Internal Model Principle of Time-Varying Optimization: Limitations and Algorithm Design,” sparking great discussions and insightful feedback. Beyond the science, Rio was absolutely fantastic—an amazing city that made the whole experience even more memorable!

December 2025: EPL graduation ceremony

Celebrating the 2025 EPL graduation ceremony at UCLouvain. Congratulations to all our Master's in Applied Mathematics (MAP) students on this remarkable achievement—it has truly been a pleasure getting to know you all.

July 2025: American Control Conference (Denver, CO)

What an exciting 2025 American Control Conference in Denver, CO!

• We presented Amir Mehrnoosh’s first group paper, “Optimization of Linear Multi-Agent Dynamical Systems via Feedback Distributed Gradient Descent Methods”

• Among many outstanding presentations, I particularly enjoyed the plenary talk on “Control for AI Safety” by G. Pappas (University of Pennsylvania)

• As always, it was a pleasure to be back in Colorado—and to hike the beautiful Flatirons

I’ve had the pleasure of visiting the Division of Control Systems at KTH Royal Institute of Technology and the vibrant community at Digital Futures. It’s been a truly enriching experience—from engaging discussions and new connections to enjoying the beautiful spring weather in Stockholm.

A heartfelt thank you to my host, Giuseppe Belgioioso and Digital Futures, for the warm welcome and support! It was great interacting with the group!

A wonderful snapshot from the Benelux Meeting 2025—highlighting the strength and energy of the systems and control community. Special thanks to the SIDDARTA project for its key role in building a center for control at UCLouvain and enabling these exciting interactions. A couple of highlights:

• Amir Mehrnoosh presented his work “Optimization of Linear Multi-Agent Dynamical Systems via Feedback Distributed Gradient Descent Methods,” proposing one of the first frameworks for distributed feedback optimization

• Vijayanad Digge presented his work on “Data-Driven Event-Triggered Control for Discrete-Time LTI Systems,” simultaneously addressing stabilization and event-triggered policy design for linear systems

A fantastic week at the IEEE Conference on Decision and Control in Milan, packed with inspiring research, lively discussions, and great energy. Always a pleasure to catch up with colleagues and meet new faces in the control community!

December 2023: IEEE Conference on Decision and Control (Singapore)

It was a pleasure to reconnect with friends and colleagues from around the world at CDC in Singapore. A few highlights:

• This was a particularly meaningful conference for me, as I had the honor of receiving the IEEE Transactions on Control of Network Systems Best Paper Award

• We presented our paper “Data-Driven Exact Pole Placement for Linear Systems,” showing that the closed-loop poles of a linear system can be placed at arbitrary locations directly from data, without relying on any model description

September 2022: Farewell, CU Boulder

My interview for the CU Boulder College of Engineering captures two unforgettable years at CU and a heartfelt farewell to Boulder, CO.

August 2019: Advancing Fuel Cell Technology at Bosch North America

This summer, I had the opportunity to spend time at the Bosch Research Center in Sunnyvale, CA, collaborating on exciting, cutting-edge research on PEM fuel cells and engaging with a highly innovative team. The highlight? The legendary free gelato bar on Thursdays!

Working with the PNNL engineers was an absolute pleasure—an inspiring environment full of bright minds and exciting ideas. I also had a great time discovering the wide range of impactful research happening across the lab!
